Jammu, September 26, 2025 — The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, in collaboration with the National Commission for Women (NCW) successfully organized a one-day awareness workshop titled “Campus Calling” on the theme “Gender Sensitivity, POSH and Cyber Security” on September 26th, 2025, at University of Jammu.

Prof. Savita Nayyar, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, welcomed the guests and provided an overview of the gender sensitivity, POSH and cyber security. She expressed that as our world rapidly digitises and diversifies, the assurance of dignity, quality and safety becomes an imperative responsibility. This workshop under the campus calling initiative of NCW is an important step towards awareness, dialogue and capacity building, guiding us all to become not just professionals but also responsible citizens who uphold the values of respect and inclusion.  She expressed her gratitude to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Umesh Rai, under whose leadership the university is fostering platforms for dialogue and skill-building for youth, especially women and today’s workshop is initiative in the same direction.

The workshop was graced by Smt. Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women and a noted social activist, who attended as the Chief Guest in the programme. In her address, Smt. Rahatkar emphasized on the critical role of youth engagement in fostering gender sensitivity and women’s empowerment on campuses across India. She highlighted the importance of leadership training and awareness among university students in building an inclusive, and equitable society.

Prof. Sangeeta Gupta, Dean Planning and Development, University of Jammu presided over the function. In her Presidential address, she asserted that gender sensitivity is the conscious effort to recognize and respect the differences, challenges, and inequalities faced by individuals based on their gender. She also appreciated the efforts of the Centre for Women’s Studies for committing to the cause of gender equality and women empowerment.

Prof. Naresh Padha, Senior Professor from Department of Physics also graced the programme as a special Guest. Advocate Kiran Thakur, founder and Director of Navridhi Welfare Foundation was the resource person for the technical sessions. At the end, various Heads of Departments, faculty, staff, and students stood together and repeated the pledge with collective resolve to create safe, inclusive and gender just environment.

Heads of Departments, Faculty members and more than 250 students from various departments of the University enthusiastically attended the workshop.

Dr. Saranjit Kaur conducted the proceedings of the workshop and Dr. Disha Sharma proposed the formal vote of thanks, both faculty members, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu.
