Srinagar, May 14: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Thursday welcomed the government’s approval for the establishment of an 800 TPD Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Project at Achan, Srinagar, describing the move as a major relief for residents who have endured years of hardship due to the persistent garbage dumping crisis in the area.
In a post on X, Bukhari wrote: “It appears that after years of suffering and relentless struggle by the people of Achan and adjoining areas, their voice has finally been heard. For years, the local population has been protesting against the official apathy and negligence surrounding the chronic issue of the Achan garbage dump, which has turned into a grave public health and environmental hazard. The unbearable foul smell, pollution, and unhygienic conditions have made life miserable for the residents of several nearby localities.”
He said that last week he himself witnessed the gravity of the situation during at Achan site. Hw said, “I personally witnessed the seriousness of the situation when the leadership and workers of Apni Party visited the site last week— not only to raise this pressing issue, but also to stand firmly with the people in their struggle for justice and dignity.”
“It is therefore appreciable that the government has finally taken notice and approved the 800 TPD Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) Project at an estimated cost of Rs 361 crore. I sincerely welcome and commend this decision,” he added,
Mr Bukhari further said, “Projects like these are not a luxury but an urgent necessity for sustainable urban development and for ensuring a cleaner, healthier, and greener future for the city. The government must now ensure timely execution and strict implementation of the project so that the people finally get relief from this long-pending menace.”
“Once again, I congratulate the concerned population whose resilient and unwavering struggle has finally begun to yield results. Apni Party assures the people that it will remain consistently vigilant and continue to press the authorities until this project is implemented effectively and the people are finally freed from the hardship and suffering they have endured for so long,” the post added.
