As lakhs of devotees continue their journey to the holy Amarnath Cave Shrine, the focus is not only on security but also on the infrastructure that keeps the annual pilgrimage moving. With thousands of vehicles travelling daily through the challenging terrain of Jammu and Kashmir, well maintained highways play a crucial role in ensuring that pilgrims reach their destination safely and without disruption. Keeping this in mind, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Regional Office Jammu, has undertaken extensive measures to provide a safe, smooth and comfortable journey for pilgrims through comprehensive highway maintenance and round-the-clock monitoring across the Jammu region.

Ahead of the commencement of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026, NHAI Jammu carried out large scale maintenance and road safety works on various National Highway stretches. The work included road repairs, resurfacing at identified locations, renewal of lane markings, maintenance of crash barriers, cleaning of drains, upkeep of road furniture, painting and maintenance of toll plazas, vegetation clearance and several other essential highway improvement works.

Fresh road markings have also been restored on key highway sections to improve lane discipline, enhance visibility during both day and night, and strengthen overall road safety. Dedicated maintenance teams and engineers continue to remain deployed at strategic locations to monitor highway conditions and respond promptly to any operational requirements, ensuring uninterrupted traffic movement. Such preparedness is particularly important during the Yatra, when even minor disruptions on the highway can affect the movement of thousands of pilgrims and support vehicles.

Since the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra began on July 3, thousands of pilgrims have been travelling with ease on the National Highway network across Jammu. According to NHAI Jammu, the proactive measures have helped provide a safer, smoother and more comfortable travel experience. The authority said it will continue to closely monitor the highway network in coordination with its Project Implementation Units (PIUs), concessionaires and other stakeholders to maintain seamless connectivity and uphold high standards of safety throughout the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026. The initiative highlights how efficient infrastructure management remains a vital pillar in ensuring the successful conduct of one of India’s most significant annual pilgrimages.
