Jammu, 16 July 2026: With the aim of promoting passenger as well as freight traffic and giving new momentum to regional trade in Jammu Division, Northern Railway, Jammu Division has inaugurated a new Goods Shed at Pampore (PMPE) Railway Station located on the Baramulla-/Sangaldan rail section. Following approval from the competent authority, the Goods Shed has commenced operations with immediate effect. This is the second Goods Shed in the Kashmir Valley under Jammu Division after Anantnag, and marks a significant milestone towards the economic development of the region.
The newly constructed Pampore Goods Shed will function daily from 06:00 AM to 10:00 PM. The facility for booking half a rake is available here, and both inward and outward freight bookings will be accepted.
All types of commodities except Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) and Coal can be booked from here. Strict compliance with all operational and commercial rules, as well as guidelines issued by NGT and the concerned State Pollution Control Board, has been ensured at the Goods Shed.
It is a matter of pride that on the very first day of its opening, 15 July, two indents for freight trains were received for Pampore.
One indent was received from Bharatgarh Railway Station of Ambala Division for 21 BCN wagons of UltraTech Cement, and the second indent was received from Kiratpur Sahib for 21 BCN wagons of ACC and Ambuja Cement. This is proof that the new Goods Shed has earned the trust of the trading community right from the start.
The opening of the Goods Shed at Pampore will bring multiple benefits to Jammu Division and the entire Kashmir Valley. Now, fruit growers, farmers, and traders of the valley will not have to depend on distant Goods Sheds to dispatch their goods, resulting in significant savings in both time and transportation costs. It will also generate new employment opportunities at the local level in loading-unloading, transportation, and other allied services. In addition, the extra burden on Anantnag Goods Shed will reduce and clearance of goods will become faster and smoother. Improved movement of goods will boost economic activities in the region and also increase railway revenue. The additional revenue generated will be utilized for further development of passenger amenities in the future.
On this occasion, _Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu, Shri Uchit Singhal* said, “Jammu Division is continuously striving keeping in mind the needs of trade and industry. The inauguration of the Goods Shed at Pampore is a major gift for the business community of Kashmir Valley. Receiving two indents on the very first day indicates that this shed will play an important role in meeting the needs of the region. This will not only strengthen the local economy but will also give impetus to the overall development of both the Railways and the region.”
The Railway administration requests all trade organizations, industrialists, and concerned stakeholders to avail maximum benefit from this new facility and become partners in the development of the region.
