JAMMU, AUGUST 11: A high-level Central Government panel began its assessment of demographic changes in Jammu on Monday, holding a detailed meeting with senior civil and police officials.
The panel, headed by retired Justice Prakash Prabhakar Navlekar, discussed population trends, migration and the settlement of foreign nationals in the Jammu region.
Officials briefed the panel about Rohingya settlements and suspected Bangladeshi nationals, including the recent detention of 21 Bangladeshi nationals in Banihal.
The committee is on tour to Qasim Nagar, Muralian, Jagti and other areas to assess the situation on the ground. It may also meet civil society groups and local residents.
The three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir is part of a nationwide study of demographic changes, including issues linked to illegal immigration and unusual population movements. The panel will submit its findings and recommendations to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
