From Washington to J&K , world now recognising India’s Strength: Gaurav

Jammu, August 20: BJP Jammu and Kashmir Spokesperson and Convenor, International Affairs, Gaurav Gupta has described two statements emanating from the United States within the last 48 hours as a significant shift in the international perception of India and Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement issued here, Gupta said that US President Donald Trump’s reference to India’s electoral system, followed by US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor’s remarks in Srinagar, reflected growing recognition of India’s democratic credibility and Jammu and Kashmir’s important place in the country.

Gupta said President Trump cited India’s enormous electoral exercise—covering nearly 646 million voters—and its photo-identification-based voting system while advocating stronger voter-identification requirements in the United States.

“This reference acknowledges the scale, strength and credibility of the electoral process conducted by the world’s largest democracy,” Gupta said.

He added that the statement was followed within a day by equally important remarks from Ambassador Gor, who, during his August 19 visit to Srinagar, described Jammu and Kashmir as “an important part of India.”

According to Gupta, the Ambassador also acknowledged the considerable improvement in the region’s security environment and indicated that the United States could review its travel advisory for Jammu and Kashmir.

“The timing of the two statements is highly significant. One recognises the strength of India’s democratic institutions, while the other acknowledges—from the soil of Srinagar itself—Jammu and Kashmir’s place as an important part of India,” he said.

Gupta maintained that the Ambassador’s language marked a notable evolution from expressions previously used in sections of American official and public discourse, including “Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir” and “India-held Kashmir.”

“What has changed is not India’s position. India has always remained clear, consistent and unequivocal. What is changing is the international recognition of the reality on the ground,” he asserted.

Highlighting the developments taking place across Jammu and Kashmir, Gupta said the Union Territory was witnessing a visible transformation in security, connectivity, tourism, investment and infrastructure.

“The US Ambassador’s acknowledgement of the improved security situation and his reference to a possible review of the travel advisory amount to an important recognition of this transformation,” he said.

Gupta also referred to Pakistan’s diplomatic reaction to Ambassador Gor’s remarks, claiming that Islamabad’s response itself underlined the significance of the message delivered from Srinagar.

“For decades, Pakistan attempted to internationalise an issue that is an inseparable part of India’s national reality. Today, the narrative is changing. The world is increasingly viewing Jammu and Kashmir through the prism of peace, democracy, development and opportunity—not through the distorted narrative propagated by Pakistan,” he said.

The BJP spokesperson said these developments were a matter of satisfaction for every Indian, particularly the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“India’s democratic strength is being recognised, its electoral institutions are being acknowledged and Jammu and Kashmir’s transformation is being noticed internationally. The emerging global narrative increasingly reflects the reality that Jammu and Kashmir is an important part of India,” Gupta said.

He described the developments as representative of a “New Jammu and Kashmir—confident, peaceful, progressive and firmly connected with the journey of a rising India.”
