Srinagar, August 26: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari on Wednesday said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are grappling with serious and pressing issues, while the government appears least concerned about addressing their genuine concerns.
He said, “This government has failed to address the grave challenges confronting the people of Jammu and Kashmir. It does not even seriously discuss issues like unemployment, which is destroying the future of our youth and, in many cases, pushing them towards the menace of drug abuse.”
Mr. Bukhari further said that even basic amenities remain unavailable in several areas, with people struggling for access to essential services such as safe drinking water.
“It is unfortunate that in this day and age, people in various parts of Jammu and Kashmir do not even have reliable access to basic necessities like drinking water,” he said.
Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari was talking to the media on the sidelines of an extraordinary party meeting in Kupwara.
When asked about Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the ruling National Conference’s backtracking on several election promises, including the commitment to provide 200 units of free electricity to consumers, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari said, “Omar Abdullah is a thorough gentleman, but the fact remains that his government has failed to deliver on several promises on the basis of which his party sought and secured votes from the people.”
He added, “People voted for the National Conference with certain expectations, and they now have every right to question the government when those promises remain unfulfilled. Electoral promises are not merely political statements; they carry a responsibility towards the people who place their trust in a government.”
During the meeting, the party leaders apprised Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari of various local issues confronting the public, discussed the prevailing political situation, and also brought several important party matters to his notice.
Meanwhile, during his day long visit to Kupwara, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari and his accompanying colleagues paid condolence visits at several places.
He extended condolences to party’s District Secretary Kupwara
Syed Javaid Geelani over the passing of his beloved mother Masooda begum.
He also visited to Peer Ramzan and condoled the demise of his maternal cousin Hayat Kumar of Herri Qadirabad. He also offered Fateh on the grave of Sufi Buzareg Qadir Sahib.
