Srinagar, October 23: Former Cabinet Minister and Apni Party Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir on Friday demanded the immediate release of pending monthly pensions for elderly people, widows and persons with disabilities.
He saidreports from the ground suggest that people belonging to these vulnerable sections of society have not received their entitled monthly pensions for several months.
Im his statement issued here, Mir further said that “one of the ruling party’s poll promises was to increase the monthly pension for these groups from the existing Rs 1,000 to Rs 3,000. However, it is ironic that instead of receiving the promised increase, beneficiaries are being deprived of even the meagre amount they were currently entitled to.”
He said that whenever huge pending payments are delayed, the issue is widely discussed and concerns are expressed. However, since this matter concerns some of the most disadvantaged sections of society, it receives little attention, while the government appears to be showing complete disregard for its responsibility towards them.
He urged the government to release all pending pension payments without further delay and fulfil its responsibility towards elderly people, widows and persons with disabilities.
