Veteran Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan died at a Mumbai hospital early on Friday morning after she suffered a cardiac arrest, her daughter confirmed. She was 71. Saroj Khan’s condition deteriorated on Thursday night in the ICU. She breathed her last around 2.30 am on Friday.
“She passed away due to cardiac arrest at around 2.30 am at the hospital,” Saroj Khan’s nephew Manish Jagwani told news agency PTI.
The last rites of Saroj Khan will be peformed at Malvani in Malad on Friday.
Saroj Khan was admitted to Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra due to breathing problems on June 20. Following her hospitalisation, a mandatory Covid-19 test was done on Saroj Khan, which turned out to be negative.
On June 24, a source close to Saroj Khan’s family said that the choreographer is doing better and will be discharged soon. “She is under observation but is doing fine. She is much better. She shall be discharged soon,” the source said.
In a career spanning over four decades, Saroj Khan is credited with choreographing more than 2,000 songs.
The three-time National Award winner has choreographed for some of the most memorable tracks, including Dola Re Dola from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas, Ek Do Teen from Madhuri Dixit-starrer Tezaab and Ye Ishq Haaye from Jab We Met in 2007.
She last choreographed for Tabaah Hogaye, featuring Madhuri from filmmaker Karan Johar’s production Kalank in 2019.
