Maruti Suzuki India today reported a 33.4 per cent growth in domestic sales to 1,50,040 units in September 2020. The automaker had sold 1,12,500 units in the year-ago month.

The mini sub-segment (Alto and S-Presso) saw the sales rising 35.7 per cent to 27,246 units in September 2020 from 20,085 units in September 2019. The sales in the compact sub-segment (WagonR, Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno, Dzire and Tour S) jumped 47.3 per cent to 84,213 units in September 2020 from 57,179 units in September 2019.

Coming to the mid-size sub-segment (Ciaz), the sales declined 10.6 per cent to 1,534 units in September 2020 from 1,715 units in September 2019.

In the utility vehicles sub-segment (Vitara Brezza, XL6, S-Cross and Ertiga), there was a growth of 10.1 per cent to 23,699 units in September 2020 from 21,526 units in September 2019. The vans sub-segment (Omni and Eeco) saw the sales rising 12.8 per cent to 11,220 units in September 2020 from 9,949 units in September 2019.

The light commercial vehicle category (Super Carry) also witnessed the sales rising 4 per cent to 2,128 units in September 2020 from 2,046 units in September 2019.

During the month under consideration, the automaker’s sales to other OEMs in the domestic market slipped 13 per cent to 2,568 units from 2,952 units in the year-ago month. On the contrary, its exports rose 9 per cent to 7,834 units in September 2020 from 7,188 units in September 2019.

Maruti Suzuki India’s overall wholesale numbers (domestic + other OEMs + export) grew an impressive 30.8 per cent to 1,60,442 units in September 2020 from 1,22,640 units in September 2019.
