Jammu, July 16:
A Strong Western Disturbance is going to affect Jammu and Kashmir from 19th July. The system will persist over J&K till 21st July. In combination with the monsoon and strong moisture supply from the Arabian Sea, the system is likely to cause moderate to very heavy rains over most parts of Jammu and Kashmir starting Monday. Its main intensity will be between 19th evening and 20th evening. There may be a temporary pause in between before another brief but hefty spell will lash over most parts of the UT.
Weather is likely to improve from 21st late morning or evening.
Day temperature, particularly on 20th is likely to stay 8 – 16°C below the normal.
There will be chances of light snowfall over higher reaches (situated above 3500m) including Zojila and Peer ki Gali.
In view of the forecast:
1. Landslides are possible in the vulnerable areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
2. Flash flooding in the vulnerable areas.
3. Shutting of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to landslides/shooting stones.
4. Risk of Cloudbursts/Mini-cloudbursts at one or two places.
5. Fall in Day temperature by 5 – 15°C.
6. Risk of cloud to ground lightning strikes.

Central Kashmir: 25 – 150mm
North Kashmir: 50 – 125mm
South Kashmir: 25 – 150mm
Jammu region: 40 – 300mm
