Srinagar, April 04:

The Indian army has started  court martial proceedings against its Captain Bhoopenadra  Singh who was alleged to have staged a fale encounter in  Amshipora village inShopian district in South Kashmir in July  2020.

Three civilians , belonging to Rajouri district of Jammu region- Imtiyaz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed and Mohmmad Ibrar  were killed in a staged encountrt . Doubts were raised over the army theory over the encounter as there was no evidence to suggest the involvement of  the three in any acts of terror nor their having any weapons with them at the place and the time of encounter.

After the news about the fake encounter spread, the Jammu and Kashmir Police had constituted a special investigation team which filed a chargesheet against three people, including Captain Singh, for “staging a fake encounter” in Shopian district and killing three men.

This is one of the cases where the army is taking action against its own officer despite the officer enjoying  the legal protection under Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
