Jammu, April 21:
The security forces have neutralised a top commander of the proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Thursday.
The slain militant has been identified as Yousuf Kantroo. He was involved in several killings of civilians and security personnel, including the recent killing of JKP’s SPO and his brother, one Soldier, and one civilian in the Budgam district
Acting on a tip-off regarding the presence of the militant in the Malwa area in Pariswani of the district, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.
As the security forces zeroed in on the spot where the militant was hiding, they came under a heavy volume of fire which was retaliated back triggering an encounter in which the militant was neutralised.
Incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, have been recovered from the spot, police said. Three soldiers and one civilian also received minor injuries in the encounter.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar termed it a big success.
