Jammu/ Poonch, August 28:

In less than  24 hours after  the Lieutenant  Governor Manoj Sinha  accorded special  sanction  of Rs. 47.11 crore for the upgradation and improvement of Mughal Road  on Thursday, the traffic has resumed on the road that connects Jammu region with the Valley passing through high and enchanting Himalayas in south of Pir Panjal.

The local people are very happy over the seriousness shown by the LG Manoj Sinha in  paying attention to the Mughal road . He has shown that he keeps his word,  Bashir Ahmad  of Bafliaz told  JK News Today after the trucks started moving on the road. “ He is a doer in the real sense of the word.”

Mughal Road was discussed at a meeting of the Administrative Council , chaired by Manoj Sinha, in Srinagar on Thursday. Its continuous closure was described as a matter of deep concern, and it was pointed out that the road required repair, upgradation  at several places. It was sad that these vulnerabilities to snowfall and land slides during  monsoon needed to be plugged once and for all.

Manoj Sinha , gave instant approval  to the  up-gradation, improvement and resurfacing of Mughal Road at an estimated cost of Rs 47.41 Crore  for a total length of 84.11 Kms.

The decision of the Administrative Council is aimed at proper upkeep /maintenance of the road to check avoidable loss of human life in various road accidents and ensuring smooth vehicular movement.

In recent years, Mughal Road being the alternate link between Jammu and Srinagar has gained significance by reducing the distance and travel time between Poonch- Rajouri districts of Jammu province and Srinagar and other districts of Kashmir province.

It has also brought to the fore, vast tourism to Shopian-Dubjan-Pir Ki Gali-Buflaiz-Surankote-Poonch-Rajouri sector. Besides the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri through Mughal road link have received access to medical and educational facilities available in Kashmir valley.

These efforts  of LG Sinha have been widely appreciated by the locals.

“ We urge L G  Sinhaji to travel on this road and see how beautiful it is and make it all-weather road ,” said Surinder Singh, a resident of  Poonch. “ It is our life line, and we  do hope that the  LG’s efforts will help us realise our dream of having a good and well surfaced road connecting us to the Valley.”
