Srinagar, April 28: As the incessant rains have lashed entire Jammu and Kashmir, flash floods have been witnessed in several parts of this union territory and in Champora area of Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, a portion of bridge was damaged in these floods.

The bridge was constructed over Khemal stream at Champora village and the damaged occurred has brought the traffic in the area to a grinding halt.

Giving details, officials said that for the last two days, the area has witnessed moderate to heavy rains leading to flash floods. “Though there was no loss of life of property but a portion of bridge was damaged due to which traffic has been suspended over the bridge till it is repaired,” said an official.

Meanwhile, weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir continue to remain erratic and rain is expected in most of the places with regular intervals on Friday as well.

A bridge over Nallah khemal at champora village in villgam Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was damaged due to flash floods triggered by the incessant rains from last couple of days, officials said on Friday.

They said a portion of bridge, constructed some 25 years ago, has been damaged, leading to halt in the traffic over it.
