JK News Today News Analysis

The biggest takeaways from Home Minister Amit Shah’s three-day visit of J&K are three Ps- Peace, Public, and Progress. In all his engagements ever since he landed in Jammu on Sunday evening and returned Tuesday from Srinagar, it was clear that he would be working on the newer dimensions of J&K situation – security, political and governance with extraordinary thrust on people’s well-being.

Home Minister’s thrust on peace in J&K is driven by the universal desire for it .The peace eluded Jammu and Kashmir for over three decades. The territory started getting taste of tranquillity in their lives in the past few years. They know that this peace is not to the liking of the inimical forces both from across the border and within.

After the abrogation of Article 370 and intensified counter-terrorism operations combined with the real-time focus on the people’s issues, peace was clawed back from terrorism that had plagued lives of the masses. Security forces personnel made supreme sacrifice and countered terrorism in all possible ways without causing collateral damage. That task has been accomplished to a large extent and the majority of the people and places in the UT are living happy and pleasant life.

Home Minister voiced concern over the continuing threats due peace coming through infiltration of armed terrorists from across the border from Pakistani side and demanded that these should be neutralized at all costs. He has promised that high tech surveillance devices would be given to BSF to challenge and neutralise the infiltrators.

Peace is imperative for Jammu and Kashmir, both in terms of what has been achieved so far and how to further it to make the people embrace it and live through it in positive fashion so that the pace of development can ensure progress in future. The future of the place and its youth is of crucial importance to J&K, the nation and inspirational message that it could send all across the globe. Kashmir continues to be in the international focus. First it carried the tag of hotspot of terrorism, and now the world sees it as an emerging zone of peace which is on path of its consolidation.

What Home Minister said about the Centre’s commitment to J&K , brings out the message of three Ps profoundly to fore.; “, “ Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi , Government of India is fully committed to establishing new dimensions of development in Jammu and Kashmir and paving the way for prosperity for the local people . The all-inclusive development in every aspect of public welfare underlines the Modi government’s commitment to transform Jammu and Kashmir through positive reforms.

This is where the second P – peoples’ welfare has been placed on the table. Peace is imperative for public welfare. As , it has been seen in the past , the developmental projects of connectivity , power generation , water supplies and expansion of education were hobbled by the forces of violence . Peace and public welfare works hand-in-hand.

Amit Shah chaired two important meetings in Srinagar on Tuesday. One, on the developmental projects, and second on the security situation and the future needs, but a single message came out of these deliberations that J&K’s security situation is on improvement spree and the goal of terror-free UT is not very far and that would pace up developmental activities.

In both the cases, Union Home Minister delivered a singular message that it is not the time to rest, but keep moving in the direction of accruing more positive gains. This message applied both to the security forces and all those engaged in the development of the state. Security and development go hand-in-hand. Home Minister, for this reason, held one-on-one talks with Chief Minister before discussing the developmental scenario in a formal meeting with others including Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha

Amit Shah has declared his mantra for J&K, and now it is for the security apparatus and the elected government to carry it forward.
