Jammu, June 13: Apni Party’s Youth Wing on Tuesday held a protest demonstration urging authorities to ensure that the examination centers for J&K students appearing for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) are set up in their native districts.
According to a press statement issued here, the leaders and the workers of the Youth Wing assembled at the Amedkar Chowk and initiated a procession towards the Divisional Commissioner’s office raising slogans in favor of the settings up CUET exams at nearby location for J&K students. The police attempted to halt the procession, but it went on. The protesters staged a powerful demonstration at the entrance of Div Com office.
Meanwhile Party’s Youth Wing Provincial President Vipul Bali presented a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner, Ramesh Kumar, on Tuesday, requesting him to take the necessary initiatives to ensure the students are not subjected to hardships by allocating their exam centers outside J&K, or even outside their respective districts.
Mr. Bali expressed his concern about the placement of exam centers for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) students outside the Union Territory (UT), or in some cases outside their native districts, which would cause significant inconvenience and hardships to the students, especially those who are from marginalised backgrounds as they will not be able to afford the financial burdens associated with travel and accommodation outside J&K, a press note issued here said.
In this regard, the Apni Party Youth Leader submitted a memorandum to Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shri Ramesh Kumar.
“It is to submit here that the policy of holding Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for students who want to pursue their college students for BA/B.Sc degree courses should be withdrawn or the examination centres should be established within Jammu as well as Kashmir for these students in their respective districts.
If the centres for the CUET are established outside J&K or other districts of J&K, it deprives the financially poor students from pursuing their dreams of further higher studies. Hence, this hampers the basic right of the students to do their higher studies as per their constitutional right.” The memorandum reads.
“Recently, when the CUET exams were held, it came to fore that many students from parts of J&K did not appear in the exams because their centres were established far away from their hometowns, and they were unable to afford the expenses. The girl students who wanted to do their higher studies also failed to appear in the examinations because the centres were in other states of the country. Unfortunately, as these students could not appear in the CUET exams, their dream of pursuing higher studies appears to have faded away. Therefore, the Govt should give them a chance and establish CUET centers within their respective districts to end the hardship so that the young generation is not deprived of the education system.” It added.
The memorandum addressed to Divisional Commissioner was handed over to Pritam Thapa, Assistant Commissioner (AC), Jammu.
Meanwhile, Raqeeq Khan, the State Vice President for the Youth Wing of the Party, along with Abhay Bakaya Gen, the General Secretary of the Youth Wing, have expressed their concerns regarding the establishment of CUET exam centers for J&K students outside their respective native districts and, in some instances, even outside the Union Territory. They emphasised that establishing exam centers in close proximity would allow all students to participate in this important test, thereby creating opportunities for them to pursue higher education. Conversely, setting up exam centers at distant locations would inconveniently deprive many students of this opportunity.
The Youth Wing leaders led a protest demonstration in Jammu demanding the setting up of CUET exam centers at locations nearby the student in J&K. Those who joined the protest included State President Trade Wing Aijaz Kazmi, Vice President Youth Wing Raqeeq Khan, General Secretary Youth Wing Abhay Bakya, Provincial President of Women Wing Parneet Kour, District President Vaibhav Matoo, District President Youth Shivam Choudhary, District President Youth Wing Samba Mangat Ram, Provincial Secretary Youth Wing Vishal Jotshi, District Secretary Ashraf Choudhary, Media Coordinator Sandeep Vaid, District Vice President Abhinav Gupta, District Secretary Ankush Dogra, Tanbir Sodi, Block President Youth Wing Vikramjeet, Shivani Koul , and others.
