Kanthi (Ramban), May 17: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) today reached one of the farthest higher secondary schools of Jammu division, Government Higher Secondary School Kanthi in Ramban district and held a Standard writing competition.
The BIS was represented by its Resource Support Team (RST) member Raja Amir Karim Tantray and the competition was organised by BIS mentor Kuldeep Singh, who is also a teacher in the school.
Before the competition, RST presented introduction about BIS and its purpose of holding these competition schools across Jammu and Kashmir. During an hour-long orientation, Tantray gave information about ISI marking of products and how genuine and standard products could be differentiated through BIS care app. He also apprised students about hallmarking of gold ornaments and how BIS care App in differentiating hallmark gold from others.
In his welcome address, the HSS principal Anil Soni appreciated BIS for holding this unique competition in their school. “I am grateful to the RST Raja Amir Karim, mentor Kuldeep Singh and BIS for choosing our school and providing information about ISI marking and hallmark gold,” he said.
He hoped that in future also similar programmes will be held in his school.
A total of 20 students of standard club of the school participated in the competition and wrote standards on coloured chalk. The top four students of the competition were awarded with cash prizes on behalf of BIS.
They requested BIS to organise industry visit for students so that they can have firsthand experience of making of products.
The programme was organised on the directions of Director BIS Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office (JKBO) Tilak Raj and Ashish Diwedi supervised it.
