For the first time since its constitution  in march last year, the Delimitation Commission  will visit  be on a four-day visit of Jammu and Kashmir from July 6 and 9, and hold an all-party meeting on July 6.

The Delimitation Commission headed by the retired Supreme court Justice Ranjana Prakash  Desai  will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir from July 6 and it will be holding meeting all the parties in Jammu and Srinagar.

Sources said that it is expected that all political parties that took part in the APM of PM- National Conference, PDP, CPI-M, Congress, BJP, National Panthers Party  will be attending the meeting  .

The Delimitation commission is working on the basis of the population as recorded by census of 2011.

There was a lot of opposition to Delimitation Commission having only BJP members in it – two MPS, Minister of state in PMO Dr Jitendra Singh and  Jugal Kishore. Now NC has relented and is likely to join other J&K parties in helping the Commission to complete its work at the earliest .

The Assembly elections in J&K hinge upon the report and recommendations of the Commission. The Delimitation Commission has been tasked to increase at least seven  more seats to the Assembly.

The previous Assembly  had 87 seats, but these got reduced to 83 after the bifurcation of the state into two union territories  of J&K and Ladakh. Ladakh had four seats in the Assembly .

Now the number will go up from remaining 83 to 90.
