Jammu, Feb 10: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday said that the cabinet was not involved in approving the ropeway project for the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi shrine.
Addressing the Legislative Assembly, the CM said a review of official records showed that the project was neither approved by the council of ministers nor by the Administrative Council.
He clarified that the project was sanctioned by the Lieutenant Governor in 2024, before a month when the elected government was formed.
Omar Abdullah said wrong information was being spread, which was misleading both the Assembly and the public. He also mentioned that an MLA had threatened to resign during an emotional debate on the issue.
On Monday, MLA Baldev Raj Sharma from the Mata Vaishno Devi constituency had claimed that the cabinet approved the project and said he would step down if his statement turned out to be false.
