Srinagar, April 8: Celebratory scenes were reported in several parts of Kashmir after the announcement of a ceasefire between the United States and Iran, with gatherings taking place in multiple districts across the Valley.
According to reports, groups of people assembled in areas such as Saidakadal and Zadibal in Srinagar, as well as in Budgam, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Pulwama, and Bandipora. Participants were seen expressing relief and optimism following the ceasefire development.
In some locations, people waved Iranian flags, distributed traditional Kashmiri kehwa, and marked the occasion with public gatherings. A section of participants described the ceasefire as a positive outcome for Iran in the recent conflict.
Residents in parts of Budgam and other districts were quoted as viewing the development as a moment of significance, reflecting solidarity with Iran.
The response comes against the backdrop of longstanding cultural and historical connections between Kashmir and Iran, often reflected in shared linguistic and religious influences. Earlier, reports had also highlighted fundraising efforts in parts of the Valley, where locals contributed money and valuables in support of people affected by the conflict.
While reactions varied across regions, the ceasefire announcement has generally been seen as a moment of relief, raising hopes for de-escalation and stability after weeks of heightened tensions.
