Katra, May 14: A delegation of the Chamber of Tourism Trade and Industry Katra, led by President Raj Kumar Padha and Secretary Atul Sharma, met DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma at his office and requested the immediate setup of a Cyber Police Station in Katra.
During the meeting, the delegation presented a Mata Ki Chunari to DIG Sharma as a mark of respect and blessings from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine.
The Chamber said that cybercrime cases in Katra are increasing and are affecting both pilgrims and local businesses. Katra, the base camp for the famous Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Yatra, receives lakhs of pilgrims every month from India and abroad.
The delegation informed the DIG about several cyber frauds targeting devotees, including fake helicopter booking websites, hotel reservation scams, travel frauds, UPI scams and online payment cheating. They also said that local businesses are facing problems such as fake social media accounts, online impersonation, phishing emails and cyber harassment.
The Chamber said that a dedicated Cyber Police Station would help create a safer digital environment for pilgrims and businesses and improve trust in the yatra system.
The delegation also appreciated the efforts of Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Katra Police for their action against drug peddling under the Drug-Free J&K Campaign. They praised the police for strict monitoring and action against illegal drug activities.
DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma assured the delegation that the police department is committed to taking strict action against cybercrime and maintaining a safe environment for pilgrims and residents. He also said the police would continue strong efforts to make society drug-free.
Among others present in the meeting were DSP Raj Kumar Kaul, Sardar Singh and other officials.
