Jammu, December 25: China has rejected the American insinuation that Beijing was capitalising the reduced tensions along the LAC preventing India from deepening its ties with the US as groundless and irresponsible comments.
Replying to a question on the US report , at his daily media conference on Thursday , Lin Jian , spokesperson of the Chinese ministry of foreign affairs , said :
“ The Pentagon’s report distorts China’s defense policy, sows discord between China and other countries, and aims at finding a pretext for the U.S. to maintain its military supremacy. China firmly opposes the report.”
The US Department of War, the changed name of Pentagon , its ministry of defence , in its annual report of 2025 to Congress titled “ Military and Security Developments Involving Republic of China” on Tuesday , had observed that “ China probably seeks to capitalise on decreased tensions along the LAC to stabilize bilateral relations and prevent the deepening of the US-India ties.”
This report has generated a lot of controversy and debate in the diplomatic and defence circles. There was a heavy and prolonged ten standoff between Chinese and Indian militaries along the Lac in Eastern Ladakh from April 2020 to October 2024 . That however as resolved with the disengagement agreement in October 2024 , and subsequently Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping had met on the side-lines of BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan on October 23, 2024 and agreed to improve bilateral ties .
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson went on to question the US report , stating that “ China iews and handles its relations with India from a strategic height and a long-term perspective.
We stand ready to strengthen communication, enhance mutual trust, promote cooperation, and properly handle differences with India, and advance a sound and stable bilateral relationship. The boundary question is a matter between China and India and the current border situation between the two countries is generally stable with smooth communication channels. China opposes relevant country’s groundless and irresponsible comments.”
