Congress responsible for panic booking of LPG Cylinders: Gaurav

JK News Today

JAMMU: BJP spokesperson and Convenor, International Affairs Gaurav Gupta today accused the Congress party of spreading misinformation and panic regarding the LPG situation in the country, stating that irresponsible statements by opposition leaders are misleading the nation during a sensitive global energy situation.

Gupta said the recent geopolitical tensions in West Asia have impacted global energy markets, but the Government of India has taken swift diplomatic and strategic measures to safeguard the country’s energy supplies. He emphasized that the Centre is closely monitoring the situation and has already taken steps to ensure uninterrupted LPG supply across the country.

He noted that the Petroleum Ministry has confirmed that LPG supplies to domestic households remain stable and uninterrupted, with priority deliveries being ensured for homes, hospitals, and educational institutions. The government has also increased domestic LPG production by nearly 30 percent in recent days to stabilise supplies and maintain adequate stock across the country.

Gupta said that despite these assurances, Congress leaders have been spreading confusion and fear among the public, triggering unnecessary panic bookings and hoarding of cylinders.

“Because of the false narrative being pushed by Congress leaders, LPG booking requests have surged from around 50–55 lakh bookings per day to nearly 75 lakh, creating artificial pressure on the distribution system,” Gupta said, adding that such behaviour is irresponsible at a time when the nation should stand united.

He also pointed out that government agencies and state authorities have repeatedly warned that rumours and misinformation about LPG shortages are causing panic buying in several places even though adequate stocks are available.

Gupta further alleged that the Congress party has a history of politicizing national issues instead of supporting efforts to protect the country’s interests.
“During the Congress regime, millions of poor families struggled to access LPG connections. Cooking gas was a privilege rather than a basic facility, and rural households were forced to rely on firewood and traditional fuels,” he said.

“In contrast, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the NDA government ensured that LPG cylinders reached virtually every household in the country through transformative initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, empowering crores of poor families with clean cooking fuel,” Gupta added.

He said the Modi government’s strong diplomatic outreach, enhanced maritime security measures, and coordinated efforts with global partners have ensured that India’s energy supply chain remains protected even amid international tensions.

“Instead of appreciating the government’s proactive steps to secure India’s energy lifeline, Congress is spreading panic and misinformation for narrow political gains. The people of India can clearly see through these attempts,” Gupta said.

Gupta reiterated that the government remains fully committed to safeguarding India’s energy security and ensuring that no household in the country faces disruption in LPG supply.

“India today is stronger, better prepared, and capable of protecting the interests of every citizen. Our energy security and the welfare of every household remain the government’s top priority,” he added.

Appealing to the public, he urged citizens not to indulge in panic buying or unnecessary stocking of LPG cylinders. “I request people across the country to remain calm and avoid hoarding LPG cylinders, as such panic stocking only creates artificial pressure on the supply system and causes distress for the nation as well as inconvenience for other households,” Gupta said.
