Srinagar, Oct. 22: Ahead of the upcoming Assembly session and Rajya Sabha elections, the ruling National Conference (NC) has called a meeting of its allies on Wednesday evening to chalk out a joint strategy. Sources said that despite strained ties over the Rajya Sabha seat allocation, the NC has invited its ally, the Congress, to participate. Congress Legislature Party leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir confirmed receiving the invitation, adding that the party will decide on its participation after an internal meeting scheduled for the evening. Tensions between the two parties escalated after NC declined to offer Congress a safe Rajya Sabha seat, instead proposing a riskier one that Congress refused to contest. The Congress also turned down NC’s offer to contest from the Nagrota Assembly seat. CPI(M) MLA M.Y. Tarigami, independent legislators backing the government, and Lone have also been invited to the meeting, which comes a day before the Assembly’s autumn session and two days ahead of the Rajya Sabha vote. A tight contest is anticipated for the fourth seat, with BJP commanding support from 28 MLAs and the coalition holding 24, while the PDP, with three MLAs, remains undecided on its strategy.
