Jammu, June 19:

Jailed Jammu & Kashmir DSP Davinder Singh was granted bail in a terror case filed by Delhi Police. The ex-cop was accused of terror links by the Delhi Police and a criminal conspiracy case was filed against him by the special cell in March. According to intelligence inputs, he is suspected to have links to ISI’s Punjab militancy unit.

However, the tainted cop will remain jail in the National Investigation Agency (NIA) case for which he was arrested on January 11. Singh was arrested while ferrying two Hizb-ul-Mujahideen terrorists in a vehicle on the Srinagar-Jammu Highway.

The cop was granted bail as Delhi police did not file chargesheet in 90 days, but NIA chargesheet is expected to be filed by next month. Sources say there is enough evidence to ‘nail’ him.

Accused Devender Singh continues to be in judicial custody in the NIA case. “We have adequate evidence against him and his chargesheet will be filed in due course,” said a spokesperson of the NIA.

J&K Dsp Davinder Singh is currently lodged in Kathua’s Heeranagar jail.

Under normal circumstances, a person is entitled to bail if the investigating agency fails to file chargesheet within 90 days. However, under special legislation of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (UAPA), the accused can be denied bail up to 180 days.
