Bandipora, Oct 16: A shocking incident has come to light at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Odina, Sonawari, where a patient was allegedly given expired medicine from the health facility’s dispensary.

According to sources, a local woman visited PHC Odina for the treatment of joint pain. She was examined and consulted by Dr. Zubair, who prescribed the required medication after a proper medical check-up. However, when the patient proceeded to collect the prescribed drugs from the PHC dispensary, she was reportedly handed expired medicine by the dispensary staff.

While taking the matter with Block Medical Officer Hajin (BMO), he assured that a thorough inquiry will be conducted into the matter and that strict action will be taken against those found guilty.

Meanwhile, locals of the area have expressed deep concern over the incident, urging the Health Department to ensure regular monitoring of drug supplies and expiry dates in all government health institutions to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for greater accountability and supervision in rural health centres to safeguard patient safety and trust.
