Leh, April 23: India and China on Sunday held 18th round of military commanders level talks to hammer out issues continuing to plague the situation in eastern Ladakh where the two armies are locked in an eyeball to eyeball situation for over three years now . The outcome of the talks is not known immediately , nor there has been any disclosure from wither side as to where do the talks stand vis-à-vis situation that has shown no sign of India being optimistic about the things to come . It is learnt that nothing concrete seems to have emerged out of the talks.
His round of talks assumed significance as it was held on the eve of Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu’s visit to New Delhi to attend a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation . Delhi is holding the presidency of the grouping , which is essentially about the security and stability of the region . With China and India locked in a tense standoff for the past three years , this would have been a bad sign for the summit.
The talks, a per the sources, were held at Chushul-Moldo border meeting point on the Chinese side of the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh.
The Indian side insisted on resolving the issues at the remaining friction points of Demchok and Depsang in eastern Ladakh as soon as possible.
The Indian delegation at the dialogue was led by Lt Gen Rashim Bali, Commander of the Leh-based 14 Corps that takes care of security along the LAC in the Ladakh sector.
In line with a decision taken at the 16th round of military talks, the two sides carried out disengagement from Patrolling Point 15 in the Gogra-Hotsprings area in September last year.
