Ramban, Feb 28: In a major crackdown on terror funding, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has seized immovable properties of five operatives of the proscribed terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen in the Gool area of Ramban district, an official spokesperson said on Friday.
The five individuals—Saraj Din (48) of Sangaldan, Reyaz Ahmed (45) of Dalwah, Farooq Ahmed (46) of Banj Bhimdassa, and Mohd Ashraf (50) and Mushtaq Ahmed (47) of Moila—had crossed over to Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and were operating from there, the official said. Intelligence reports revealed that they were attempting to sell their properties in Jammu and Kashmir to fund militant activities.
“The seizure of immovable properties belonging to these five exfiltrated terrorists is a decisive step in dismantling terror funding networks and preventing the resurgence of militancy in the region,” the spokesperson stated.
He further emphasized that the move sends a strong message to terrorists operating from PoJK that their attempts to revive militancy in Jammu and Kashmir will not be tolerated.
The seizure order, issued by the sub-divisional police officer in Gool, prevents any sale, lease, or transaction involving these properties without prior permission from the Jammu and Kashmir Police or designated authorities. Officials believe that this will cut off a crucial source of terror funding that could have been used to finance Hizbul Mujahideen’s activities and radicalize local youth.
According to police, the five individuals had crossed over to PoJK for arms training and were actively engaged in promoting militant activities. The latest action is part of the government’s broader strategy to curb terror financing and weaken the support networks of proscribed groups.
Police also noted that the families of these individuals will now face legal and financial constraints, preventing them from offering indirect support to militant activities.
Over the past few years, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has intensified its efforts against terror funding, overground worker (OGW) networks, and exfiltrated terrorists. The spokesperson reiterated that security forces remain committed to ensuring long-term peace, stability, and development in the Union Territory while taking firm action against those attempting to destabilize the region.
This move aligns with the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism, reinforcing its commitment to eliminating militant networks and their financial resources.
