Srinagar, July 24:

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, strict restrictions have been imposed across Kashmir except for Bandipora district, to contain the spread of growing COVID-19 cases in Kashmir Division relentlessly.

The six-day complete lockdown in Kashmir Valley came into effect from Wednesday following the alarming spike in the number of COVID-19 cases being reported in the last about three weeks. The lockdown will end on 27th of this month.

No movement of people except in medical emergencies and essential services was being allowed across the Valley while authorities have sealed most of the roads and market places in all the districts of Kashmir including Srinagar and placed concertina wires and barriers on the roads to stop the public movement.

Shops, fuel stations and other business establishments were shut and public transport was off the roads.

Meanwhile, in view of the forthcoming Eid-ul-Azha festival, the Divisional Administration of Kashmir has announced the opening of the markets for three days from 28th of this month to facilitate hassle free purchase of sacrificial animals and other necessary items.

However, instructions were issued that the markets should open in a phased manner with different timings to avoid the public gatherings and violation of social distancing protocol in the market places during the relaxations in these three days.
