581 companies of paramilitary forces to be stationed across J&K to ensure a smooth and secure pilgrimage

May 29, 2025: As preparations begin for the annual Amarnath Yatra starting from July 3, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has approved a large-scale deployment of paramilitary forces across Jammu and Kashmir. The move is aimed at ensuring the safety and smooth conduct of the yatra, which attracts lakhs of devotees from across the country.
According to official sources, a total of 581 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) will be deployed in phases. Of these, 156 companies already stationed in Jammu and Kashmir will be immediately put to use.
This includes: 91 companies of CRPF, 30 of SSB, 15 of CISF, 13 of BSF, and 7 of ITBP. Each company consists of around 75–80 personnel.
An additional 425 companies will arrive by June 10, comprising: 130 BSF, 128 CRPF (including 5 women’s units), 67 SSB, 55 ITBP, and 45 CISF units.
The paramilitary forces will remain on duty until the Yatra concludes on August 9, after which de-induction will begin in a phased manner.
The security personnel will be responsible for guarding the holy cave shrine, managing the movement of pilgrims, securing vulnerable stretches along the twin routes of Baltal and Pahalgam, and maintaining overall law and order throughout the pilgrimage.
Officials say the deployment reflects the government’s commitment to provide a safe and peaceful environment for the devotees during the two-month-long religious event.
