Jammu / Srinagar – The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Regional Office Jammu & Kashmir, continues its strong commitment to road safety by implementing high-visibility retro-reflective tape drives and other visibility enhancement measures across key Project Implementation Units (PIUs) — Jammu, Ramban, Udhampur, and Srinagar. These initiatives are aimed at significantly improving road user visibility during night-time, foggy and low-visibility conditions, thereby strengthening overall highway safety for all users.
PIU Jammu (District Samba)
Under PIU Jammu, high-visibility retro-reflective tapes have been installed on crash barriers, construction vehicles, and equipment throughout District Samba. Retro-reflective tapes have also been installed along the full length of construction zones in under-construction areas to enhance visibility for road users. Solar blinkers have been provided to improve the visibility of diversions and median openings. New retro-reflective warning sign boards have been installed in areas prone to cattle movement. Additionally, solar lights are scheduled to be installed soon in accident-prone areas to further enhance safety during night-time and low visibility periods. These measures help road users clearly identify hazards and safety structures, reinforcing NHAI’s commitment to safer and smoother travel experiences on national highways.
PIU Srinagar (Toll Plaza at Charsoo, Awantipora)
PIU Srinagar is conducting a special retro-reflective taping drive at the Toll Plaza at Charsoo, Awantipora. Vehicles passing through this toll point are being fitted with retro-reflective tapes to enhance visibility and safety, especially during night and fog. These efforts support better identification of vehicles and roadway features under low-visibility conditions, contributing to safer travel along this route.
PIU Ramban (Qazigund Expressway Pvt. Ltd.)
At the Qazigund Expressway Pvt. Ltd. corridor, PIU Ramban held a dedicated retro-reflective taping drive to strengthen visibility during the foggy season. Reflective tapes and flags have been mounted on Incident Management Vehicles and safety cones. Retro-reflective taping has also been applied to road user vehicles. Additional visibility improvement measures such as installation of solar blinkers, reflective sign boards, and future solar lighting further reinforce safety precautions for all travelers.
PIU Udhampur
PIU Udhampur has also undertaken comprehensive visibility improvement measures, including retro-reflective taping across construction zones and placement of reflective warning sign boards in critical areas. Solar blinkers have been installed to mark diversions and median openings, and plans are underway to install solar lights in accident-prone locations to further enhance night-time safety along national highways in the Udhampur region.
These coordinated efforts across PIU Jammu, PIU Srinagar, PIU Ramban, and PIU Udhampur demonstrate NHAI, RO Jammu & Kashmir’s ongoing commitment to proactive road safety practices. By enhancing visibility and strengthening infrastructure safety, these initiatives aim to reduce accidents and ensure a safer, more secure travel experience for all national highway users.
