Jammu, April 1 , 2026: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference-led government did not oppose a Private Member Bill introduced by Tanvir Sadiq in the Assembly. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds Revenue Portfolio, allowed the bill to be tabled, and it was cleared for introduction through a oral vote while opposition members stayed silent.
The proposed law focuses on extending leases for current occupants and gains importance amid concerns over expiring leases. It also seeks to address the effects of the 2022 land grant rules, which mandate that most leases will not be renewed and instead be auctioned at market rates.
Later, Tanvir Sadiq shared the development on social media, saying his Private Member’s Land Grants Bill was introduced without opposition and expressed hope that it would benefit deserving people across Jammu and Kashmir.
