Centre completely failed in delivering justice to the rural labourers.

JK News Today

Jammu December 17th : Rattan Lal Gupta Provincial President Jammu, JKNC interacting with a deputation of State Centre Labour Union led by its Nar Singh President Labour Union JKNC today. Mr. Gupta strongly condemns the change of name of the MGNREGA scheme and it is an attempt by the Centre Government to mask its complete failure in delivering justice to rural labourers. Renaming a scheme does not feed hungry families, nor does it compensate for months of unpaid wages. He said that the Centre, with the active connivance of the L.G administration in Jammu and Kashmir, has pushed MGNREGA workers into severe economic distress. Thousands of crores of rupees are pending nationwide, and hundreds of crores remain unpaid in Jammu and Kashmir alone, affecting lakhs of Job card holders who are struggling for survival. These workers have already completed their assigned work, yet their rightful wages are being deliberately withheld.

Mr Gupta said that the L.G administration, instead of standing with the poor, has chosen to act as a silent spectator and executor of the Centre’s anti- poor policies. This systematic delay in payments has shattered the rural economy, forces families into debt, and exposed the utter insensitivity of those ruling from Delhi. The condition of poor labourers today is worse than ever before, and the responsibility squarely lies with the Centre and its appointed administration.

Mr Gupta demands immediate release of all pending MGNREGA dues, adequate funding, and an end to bureaucratic harassment. The Centre must stop punishing the people of Jammu and Kashmir, and the L.G administration must answer why it has failed to protect the rights and dignity of the poor. This deliberate delay in payments has pushed families to the brink of survival. The condition of MGNREGA workers today is worse than ever before, exposing the government’s insensitivity and failure to honour the dignity of labour. Cosmetic changes, advertisements, and renaming exercises cannot substitute for timely wages and genuine commitment.

Instead of indulging in political gimmicks, the government must immediately release all pending payments, ensure adequate budgetary allocation, and strengthen the implementation of MGNREGA in letter and spirit. Denial of wages is nothing short of injustice and exploitation of the poorest of the poor.
