Jammu, January 24:

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) organised a Road Safety Workshop in Jammu as part of National Road Safety Month 2026, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening road safety practices on National Highways and project corridors.

The workshop was organised under the guidance of Sh. R.S. Yadav, Regional Officer, NHAI, RO Jammu, and was coordinated by Sh. Rajiv Kumar, Project Director, NHAI, PD Jammu, with the objective of promoting a robust culture of safety across project teams and ensuring effective implementation of codal provisions and best practices at field level.

The programme witnessed active participation of more than 60 engineers representing NHAI, executing agencies, and consultants.

Sh. Ashish Shukla, Executive Director, NHIDCL, RO Jammu, and Sh. Purshottam Kumar, Chief Engineer, PMGSY Jammu graced the occasion and highlighted the importance of inter-agency coordination and collaboration to achieve measurable and sustained improvements in road safety.

Expert sessions were delivered by the team from 3M, joint organisers of the programme, and Mr. Dhiraj Prakash Sethi, President – Safety System & Audits, Cube Highways, who shared practical insights on safety systems, safety audits, and field-level risk mitigation. The deliberations focused on linking practical field experience with codal provisions, strengthening work zone safety, and identifying implementable interventions for accident prevention.

Speaking on the occasion, NHAI officials emphasised that National Road Safety Month is not merely an observance, but a mission to save lives. NHAI has been undertaking multiple initiatives during the month, including health-related interventions, emergency preparedness activities, and awareness drives to promote responsible road use and enhance safety on highways.

The workshop concluded with key safety takeaways for immediate adoption at project sites, including strengthening lane discipline, improving visibility through retro-reflective devices, reinforcing safe work zone practices, and institutionalising periodic safety audits and compliance reviews. Participants were encouraged to cascade the learnings to their teams and implement the recommendations across ongoing projects.

NHAI reiterates its commitment to safer highways and calls upon all stakeholders—officials, contractors, consultants, and road users—to work together to ensure safer roads and safer journeys for all.
