Srinagar, April 6:

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has asked Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to present himself before its New Delhi office on April 8 and assured him that “his security concerns will be taken care of”.

In response to two previous notices, Mirwaiz’s counsel had told the NIA that his client could be questioned in Srinagar, citing “security concerns and hostile atmosphere in New Delhi as the major reasons as to why my client could not visit Delhi for questioning”.

In his recent Friday sermon at Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz had stated that he was ready for questioning at NIA’s Srinagar office.

In the fresh summons, the NIA has stated the security concerns raised by the Hurriyat chairman “will be taken care of”.

A source said that mass consultations have been started by Mirwaiz to take a final call on whether to present himself before the NIA.

“The final decision will be taken by Sunday,” the source said.

Earlier, NIA sleuths had raided Mirwaiz’s residence at Nigeen and confiscated his mobiles, laptop and official documents including letter heads of Dar-ul-Khair, Anjuman-e-Auqaf Jamia Masjid, and other documents.
