The Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir is on march to attain excellence in various fields of physical and human development has been reconfirmed by Niti Ayog in Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) index that clearly establishes that the efforts undertaken by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha ever since he took over office in August last year have paid dividends.
Manoj Sinha’s tenure shows has scripted a success story where all parameters of good governance have registered an unprecedented growth and every parameter has gone several steps up from where it stood earlier.
The Niti Ayog, that bases its index on the feedback and data analysis from the ground has given quite high marks to the Union territory of J&K in the fields if education , gender ratio, agriculture production and health sectors to name a few.
The Niti Ayog index has stated that in the health sector , if studied against the backdrop of the pandemic of coronavirus , has shown remarkable uptick. It has observed that the “ Routine Immunization Programme Dashboard (Health Management Information System), during the period April 2019-March 2020, 91 percent of children in India in the age group of 9-11 months were fully immunized (One dose of BCG, 3 doses of DPT and OPV and one dose of Measles vaccine). The national target is to increase it to 100 percent. Maharashtra, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh have achieved the target.
HIV incidence per 1,000 uninfected population is estimated to have declined from 0.07 in 2017 to 0.05 in 2019.. Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh lead among the UTs with HIV incidence as low as 0.02 per 1,000 uninfected people.
In the year 2019, the mortality rate of children under the age group was 38 among 1,00,000 but this has now come down to 23. Last year r percentage of institutional deliveries has increased from 66.2 percent .
Manoj Sinha’s style of active participation and monitoring of various sectors is also reflected in this index .
The index has lauded the performance of J&K in bringing down the school dropout rate . In 2019 , the dropout rate that stood at 24.81 per cent was brought down to 17. 18 percent , more than 7 per cent decline in just one year . The teacher – pupil ratio at the secondary level also improved to 12:1 in the Union Territory. 84 percent of schools in Jammu increased to 12.1 per cent. It also stated that 84 percent of the schools in Kashmir have electricity and drinking water facilities, which is a much better record than many of the advanced and well connected and financially better performing states .
Sinha’s thrust on power generation and , in particular on the renewable energy is also reflected in the index wherein it has been stated that With power generation close to 2.5 GW, Jammu and Kashmir lead the UTs in the generation of renewable power.
The forest cover of J&K UT has registered phenomenal increase in the past one year. Niti Ayog in its index said that in comparison to 2019 when the forest area was 10.46 , it has now increased to 39.66 per cent.
Despite the fact that the problem of male -female ratio is a countrywide phenomenon . The sec ratio has now increased 927 per thousand male population as against 917 earlier.
This index would help boost the morale of society and stakeholders to do more and achieve higher goals under the leadership of LG Manoj Sinha in future. A signal of bright future for J&K.
