A no-confidence motion against Om Birla will be debated and put to vote in the Lok Sabha on March 9, the first day of the second phase of the Budget Session, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced.

The Budget Session, which began with the President’s address on January 28 and saw the presentation of the Union Budget 2026 on February 1, reconvenes from March 9 to April 2. Rijiju said several important and a “critical” bill will be introduced during this period. He warned that continued disruptions by the opposition could lead to the use of the guillotine to pass demands for grants.

The first phase witnessed repeated protests, including disruptions over remarks by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and ended with the suspension of eight opposition MPs.
