JAMMU, JUNE 20: This year, Indian Army has launched Operation Shiva 2026 to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of Yatra for devotees amid heightened threats. Named after Lord Shiva, the operation aims to protect not only the pilgrims but also the local residents. Under the operation, over 42,000 security personnel, including Indian Army, CRPF, BSF, SSB, ITBP, and CISF are working together using drones and other advanced technologies for surveillance, thus forming a multi-tier security grid. The Army also operates extensive medical networks consisting of a 100-bed field hospital, 26 oxygen booths, and emergency rations for over 25,000 people. Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), Bomb Detection and Disposal Squads (BDDS), and Indian Army helicopters have been kept on high alert for rapid contingency response. To ensure uninterrupted movement along both Pahalgam and Baltal, Engineer Task Forces and Signal Companies have also been deployed. In view of the prevailing security and weather challenges, this year’s Amarnath Yatra is being seen as not just a religious pilgrimage, but also as a major security operation.
Meanwhile, Northern Command Army Commander Lt General Pratik Sharma visited Baltal on June 19, following his visit to Pahalgam. During his visit he was briefed on the prevailing security situation, measures undertaken to enhance vigilance, effective coordination, and the readiness of the troops. Interacting with soldiers and officers, the Army Commander emphasized the need for sustained alertness and operational readiness to meet all challenges.
In conclusion, it can be said that the Indian Army remains fully alert and prepared to protect both pilgrims and local residents from any mishappening, ensuring a safe and secure Amarnath Yatra.
