Srinagar, April 18: Prominent politician and Vice President of the Apni Party, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, on Thursday, submitted his nomination papers for the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat as a candidate for his party.

According to a press release, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas submitted his nomination papers as the Apni Party’s candidate for the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat at the office of the Returning Officer in Anantnag today. He was accompanied by his senior party colleagues including Vice President Usman Majid, General Secretary Rafi Ahmad Mir, Additional General Secretary Hilal Ahmad Shah, Chief Coordinator Abdul Majeed Padder, Spokesperson Yawar Mir, District President Abdul Rahim Rather, and others.

Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas expressed his firm belief in his success in the parliamentary polls. He said, “I trust the wisdom of my people, and I think the time has come when people will finally reject the traditional political parties and their leaders, who have been exploiting them for years and decades.”

Taking a dig at the conventional parties and their leaders, Manhas blamed them for being responsible for the deaths and destruction endured by Jammu and Kashmir over the past three decades.

He said, “These parties and their leaders kept people busy with emotional sloganeering and unattainable goals for their own political dividends. Eventually, this deceptive politics paved the way for a prolonged era of violence spanning over three decades.”

Talking about NC’s political deceptions, Manhas said, “The then leader of NC played a pivotal role in facilitating Jammu and Kashmir’s accession to the nation in 1947. But later, he started misleading people on the name of the so-called ‘Raishumari’ movement in 1953, making innocent people cannon fodder for this self-proclaimed movement for about 22 years. Then they wound up this movement and emotional sloganeering about it in 1975. Then the same party started harping on the ‘Autonomy’ slogan for years and decades. All this was done for personal and political gains by the leaders of NC,” he added.

Criticizing the PDP, Manhas said, “The PDP had a secret pact with the BJP in assembly polls in 2014, but it allured people for the votes saying that if they wanted to keep BJP at bay, then they should vote for the PDP. However, soon after the election, the party made an alliance with the same BJP to form the government. These parties have always been befooling people through their false promises, deceptive narratives, and emotional sloganeering. But I am sure that the time has come when people will reject them with the power of their vote.”
