Director Gen4ral of Jammu and Kashmir police Dilbag Singh put all the pieces of the April 20 Poonch terror attack together on Friday when he placed graphic details of the ambush of a lonely army truck , in which five soldiers were killed and sixth one injured. This had become a puzzle as to how the attack had taken place , who all were perpetrators . The most crucial question was , how did sophisticated weapons find their way into the hands of the terrorists .
Decoding the attack and answering questions had become very important as this particular attack had come to redefine and reinforce the idea of militancy in the Pir Panjal range on the southern side of Kashmir Valley . The area runs close to the Line of Control that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan .
DGP Dilbag Singh , who has been monitoring the investigations launched into the attack , on Friday put the whole thing in place – there are nine to 12 foreign ( read Pakistani ) militants in the area , they keep on shifting their bases , and get local support as without this they cannot survive nor mount any attack . The weapons came from across and were dropped through drones .
And the police, through its persistent investigation , intensive questioning of the suspects has got a direction , and that direction can lead to the logical conclusion . Some conclusions have already appeared on the surface that the perpetrators and the weapons came from across the LoC, and the terrorists could get the local support , through coercion, or use of money or ideological affinity . This part, it is believed, would be fine tuned .
The police investigations have bridged certain gaps that appeared after the attack, which shook the nation . There are more – to reach the perpetrators and to know how all they had planned it, and what would have been their planning for the future.
For Jammu and Kashmir police this is very, very, important because they are the permanent seekers and stakeholders of peace in the whole of the region, whether the north or south side of the Pir Panjal. Jammu and Kashmir police have been instrumental in restoring peace in Kashmir Valley through its intensified anti-terror operations and simultaneous people- friendly measures .The huge task has been accomplished to a large extent . The police, therefore , could not have left this part of the UT, unattended . Poonch terror attack is a challenge that it has taken upon itself to investigate and work out the case till its closure .
DGP Dilbag Singh’s sketch of the turn of events before , during , and after the attack has given confidence to the people that the terrorists and their masters would be brought to book . The revelations made by him have also given a hope to the masses that terrorists cannot ruin peace and normalcy in any part of the territory. This is what the work of police is , and this is what the police have started doing in earnest .
