January 25, 2026 : The Union Territory Administration of Ladakh has announced the 6th State Awards for the year 2025, to be conferred on the occasion of Republic Day 2026. The awards have been approved by the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh to recognise individuals and organisations for their outstanding contributions in various fields.
According to an official order issued by the General Administration Department, the awards will be given in categories including Bravery, Literature, Art and Craft, Social Reforms, Environment Protection, Public Service, Entrepreneurship, Progressive Farming and Sports.
Under the Bravery category, the award has been announced posthumously for Late Tashi Namgail of Garkhon, Kargil, in recognition of his courage and sacrifice. Anayatullah, Deputy Superintendent of Police (HQrs), Kargil, has also been selected for the Bravery Award for his exemplary service.
In the field of Literature, Art and Craft, the awardees include Konchok Rigzin, Thuptan Shanfan and Dr Padma Gurmet for their contribution to preserving and promoting Ladakh’s culture and heritage.
For Social Reforms, Empowerment and Environment Protection, Muzammil Hussain and Kunzes Dolma have been selected for their work at the grassroots level.
The Public Service awards will be conferred on Sonam Lotus, Scientist-F. Sonam Lotus is a well-known weather expert of Ladakh and is widely respected for his work in the field of meteorology and climate science. He has played a key role in providing accurate weather forecasts and climate-related information, especially for the challenging terrain and extreme weather conditions of the region. His expertise has been crucial for disaster preparedness, aviation safety, road connectivity and public safety in Ladakh. Through his dedication and scientific approach, Sonam Lotus has significantly contributed to protecting lives and supporting development in the Union Territory, making him a trusted name in weather forecasting and public service.
Vishal Atri, JKAS, Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Drass, for their dedication and service in administration and governance.
In the Entrepreneurship and Progressive Farming category, Yangchan Dolma and Ladakh Organic & Green Initiative Consultancy, headed by Er Ahmad Ali, have been selected for promoting sustainable and green practices.
For achievements in Sports, the awards will be given to Mohd Abbas Nordakh and Abida Afreen.
As per the order, each awardee, or their family representative in case of posthumous awards, will receive a cash award of ₹51,000, a medal and a citation. The medal and citation will be presented at a separate official event to be organised later.
The State Awards aim to honour individuals and organisations who have made significant contributions towards the social, cultural and developmental progress of Ladakh.
