February 9, 2026: The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Abdul Rahim Rather has directed his secretariat to examine allegations against PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra for allegedly bringing a microphone inside the House.
Taking strong note of the matter, the Speaker said the issue was unfortunate and would be examined strictly as per the rules. “Anything done in a hidden manner is wrong. An MLA holds an honourable position and such actions should not take place. The media is doing its job and brings issues before everyone. I have asked my secretariat to look into the matter as per rules,” he said.
The issue was raised by National Conference (NC) MLA Altaf Kaloo in the absence of Parra. Kaloo alleged that when Mubarak Gul was chairing the House as Chairman, PDP MLA Waheed Parra entered the House with a microphone. “When it was pointed out, he put the microphone into the pocket of Aga Muntazir,” Kaloo claimed.
Another PDP MLA, Mir Muhammad Fayaz, defended Parra and said the allegations were false. He added that Parra had even asked for a check, but the House was adjourned before the matter could be verified.
Intervening in the debate, the Speaker told Fayaz, “You are defending the indefensible.”
Minister for Education Sakeena Ittoo urged Fayaz to remain calm and said the truth would come out after the examination.
The allegations were earlier levelled by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary when Pulwama MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra was participating in the general discussion on the budget. Parra was speaking on issues related to the SASCI and criticised the NC for not consulting the House, calling it a “death trap for Jammu and Kashmir.”
