Srinagar, December 23: Apni Party President Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, on Saturday, expressed his shock and profound annoyance over the mysterious deaths of four civilians in Poonch. The individuals, allegedly taken by the Army for questioning after the ambush that claimed the lives of four soldiers near the Dara Ki Gali-Bufliyaz forest area on Thursday, were discovered dead under suspicious circumstances on Friday. The victims hail from a village, located near the site of the terrorist attack on Army vehicles.

In a statement, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari condemned the terrorist attack and appealed to Home Minister Amit Shah to ensure a thorough investigation into the civilian deaths so that those involved are identified and brought to justice.

He said, “While strongly condemning the terrorist attack that resulted in the deaths of five soldiers in Poonch, I am deeply disturbed and shocked by the mysterious deaths of four civilians following the incident. I appeal to Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah ji to ensure a thorough investigation into the civilian deaths so that those responsible are identified. If the Army or security forces are found to be involved, the individuals accountable must be brought to justice.”

Expressing concern over videos and images depicting civilians being subjected to force, Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari emphasised the need to address these incidents promptly.

He said, “It is painful to witness civilians being mercilessly beaten by the forces. Such incidents should not be tolerated, as they tarnish the reputation of the Armed Forces and foster alienation within the population. Investigations into these occurrences are imperative to hold those violating human rights accountable and set an example.”

Meanwhile, Apni Party leaders and workers, led by the party’s provincial president, Mohammad Ashraf Mir, on Saturday, held a protest demonstration against the mysterious civilian killings in Poonch at the party headquarters in Srinagar. The protesting party leaders and workers raised slogans against the four civilian deaths and demanded investigations into the incident. However, the police did not allow the protesting party leaders and workers to come out of the office premises.
