Jammu: The United States of America has yet again condemned the Pahalgam terror attack in the strongest possible words and recommitted its solidarity with India in its fight against terrorism . It also made it clear that the mediation on Kashmir is not on its agenda , in a way declaring that though US is monitoring the situation but not joining the mediation turf.
The US stand makes it amply clear that it recognizes the Indian position on Kashmir and doesn’t want to dilute it in any manner . That shows the Washington’s solidarity with India not just against terrorism but also the talks and suggestions of mediation.
Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar had told media in Islamabad on Thursday that it would be talking to global powers to understand its view point on the issue after attack in Pahalgam. Dar had not used the term terror attack for the massacre of the tourists at the hands of tourists in Pahalgam on Tuesday .
Tammy Bruce, the spokesperson of the US State Department , told media in her opening remarks at the daily briefing of the department on Thursday evening that , “
Now on to the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam. As President Trump and Secretary Rubio have made clear, the United States stands with India, strongly condemns all acts of terrorism. We pray for the lives of those lost and for the recovery of the injured and call for the perpetrators of this heinous act to be brought to justice.”
Later answering questions on Jammu and Kashmir and the escalating situation between India and Pakistan after the April 22nd terror attack in Pahalgam, , Tammy Bruce said : “ it was a horrible situation, but at the same time that’s basically going to be the extent of the comments at this point. What I can tell you is, of course, as we all know, it’s a rapidly changing situation and we are monitoring it closely, as you might imagine. And we, of course, are not now taking a position on the status of Kashmir or of Jammu either, so that’s really going to be the extent of what I can say today.”
As a Pakistani journalist brought this question suggesting US mediation in the light of US President Donald Trump’s offer to mediate on Kashmir in his first term from January 2017 to January 2021, the spokesperson snubbed the journalist saying, “I’m not going to be remarking sir….. I will say nothing more on that situation . The President and the Secretary have said things, as have the deputy secretary. They’ve made their positions clear. I will not continue with something in that manner.”
