When Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted on Thursday evening ,” Glad to speak to @Rishi Sunak today, “ it was much more than a congratulatory call to his British counterpart who assumed office on Tuesday.
There was much more in this congratulatory message than mere exchange of greetings between the two heads of the governments , literally across oceans . That was the discovery of the old bonds between Indians- the first Indian origin British Prime Minister being spoken to by the Indian Prime Minister who has transformed the image of the country, as India today is pivot in defining the new world order.

An immediate conclusion , as it was obvious too, that Modi congratulated Sunak whose grandparents were born and brought up in undivided India – Gujranwala , now in Pakistan . There is a common bond that they shared because of their common heritage .
Modi opened his tweet by underlining the importance of the conversation by saying , “ Congratulated him on assuming charge as UK PM. We will work together to further strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”. The Indian PM congratulated his British counterpart on his becoming the PM is a natural gesture , but who is speaking and to whom and in what context. This is very important , as Modi made it politely plain that they will work together to further strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, this means that the work is already in progress and Modi-Sunak will carry it forward .
Modi has had good relations with all the prime ministers of the UK, he enjoyed personal equation , but advocated India-UK relations as equals . This is where India enjoys its strength
Sunak , while reflecting on the conversation , wrote “ Thank your Prime Minister @NarendraModi for your kind words as I get started in my new role . The UK and India share so much. I ’m excited about what our two great democracies can achieve as we deepen our security , defence and economic partnership in the months and years ahead.”
This is a commitment of the two prime ministers to look at strengthen the long-term relationship between the two countries .
It was clear from the readout of the conversation as mentioned in the readout of it by the UK government official . It read that Prime Minister Sunak said he was a “ visual representation of the historic links between the UK and India, and intended to build on this relationship to develop ever closer ties between our two countries.”
While discussing shared global challenges , “ the Prime Minister praised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership on tackling climate change and the leaders welcomed opportunities to bolster our security , defence and economic partnership,” the readout said
The Prime Minister hoped the UK and India could continue to make good progress in negotiations to finalise a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.

The leaders also agreed to work together as two great democracies to strengthen the developing economies of the world, and looked forward to meeting in person at the G20 in Indonesia.

This is where a future-promising relationship between India and the UK is marching ahead.
