The 111 kms LA ULTRA Marathon was organised from 23 Aug 18 to 24 Aug 18 at Leh under the aegis of ‘I Run Sports Management Pvt Ltd’ in which a large number of long distance runners, including foreigners, participated. Four athletes of Ladakh Scouts Regt, representing the Indian Army team, participated in this event.
Continuing their winning streak in this prestigious event, the top four positions were secured by Ladakh Scouts runners breaking their own record, set last year, by 20 minutes. Rifleman Stanzin Nurboo , Rifleman Jigmet Norboo , Rifleman Shabbir Hussain and Rifleman Stanzin Phunstog led the 54 participants of various nationalities finishing the run way ahead of the rest.
Proving their mettle in this unique high altitude run, which comprises a test of mental and physical endurance of the participants over a gruelling distance of 111 kms across 18350ft high Khardung La. The run commenced from Sumur in Nubra valley on 23 Aug 18 with an ascent upto Khardung La followed by a descent to the finish point at Shanti Stupa, Leh on 24 Aug 18. This commendable achievement and the perseverance displayed by these athletes has been exceptional and has earned laurels for the Regiment and the Indian Army.
