To mark Children’s day 2016, Dr.Gautam Sharma, President, Indian Dental Association (IDA), Jammu, conducted an oral health awareness lecture and dental check-up camp in the Govt.Girls High School,Nagri Parole, in which 254 girl students of the school were examined.
This camp was organised in collaboration with NGO Association For Service to Humanity & Allied (ASHA). Abbott Healthcare provided free Toothpastes and mouthwash for the camp.
Dr.Gautam Sharma in his lecture emphasised the importance of brushing twice a day and to avoid sweet sticky foods, soft drinks, candies and chocolates. He also demonstrated the correct brushing technique to the students and advised them to use only soft bristle toothbrush.
Dr.Sharma said that out of 254 girl students nearly 218 are suffering either from caries or periodontal disease which is a very disturbing trend and major public health issue which immediately needs to be addressed. He said that he had conducted more than 125 dental checkup camps but had never seen such a huge percentage of children suffering from dental disease at a single place.
Dr.Gautam Sharma also appealed to dental surgeons of Jammu province to dedicate two hours in a week for conducting the dental checkup and awareness camps in schools so that good oral habits can be inculcated in children at an early age.
Daljit Singh Sasan, Principal of the school welcomed the resourse person and introduced the staff members to him.
Those who were present on the occasaion from NGO ASHA includes N.M.Sumbria, Dr.Kuldeep Mahotra, Mahesh Gupta, Som Nath, S.K.Sharma, Shiv Dev Singh, Jagdish Chander, Ashok Ratta.
Ashish Gupta from Abbott Healthcare was also present in the camp.
