Jammu, March 03: In his address to the legislative assembly on the opening day of its first-ever budget session in Jammu on Monday, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said the restoration of full statehood of J&K is legitimate desire of citizens.
The issue of the restoration of statehood to J&K, which was downgraded to the status of UT in August 2019 , has been hanging in the balance since.
The elected government that came into being after six years in October 2024 has already passed a resolution to this effect but despite promises and resolutions, the statehood is awaited.
In his address, LG Sinha reflecting on the issue said “
One of the foremost aspirations of the people of
Jammu and Kashmir is the restoration of full
statehood. My Government remains steadfast in
its commitment to addressing this legitimate
desire of the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir. My
Government recognizes the emotional and
political significance of the Statehood for the
people and is actively engaging with all
stakeholders to facilitate this process in a
manner that ensures peace, stability, and
progress.”
