Srinagar, 16 November 2025: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) deeply regrets to inform about the tragic accident that occurred late night on 15 November 2025 at Village Waterwani, near Vani, on Phase-1 of the Srinagar Ring Road. The incident involved a collision between an NKC company boom placer and a Tata Sumo vehicle, resulting in the unfortunate loss of five lives in the Tata Sumo.

Initial findings suggest that the vehicle entered the construction zone without authorization. NHAI reiterates that Phase-1 of the Srinagar Ring Road is currently under construction and has not been formally opened for public traffic. The project site contains ongoing construction activities, movement of heavy machinery, unfinished pavement layers, and other active works which pose significant risks to unauthorized entrants.

NHAI appeals to the general public not to access any under-construction stretches of the ring road. Entering such zones without permission endangers lives and disrupts the progress of critical infrastructure development.

In cooperation with the contractor and local administration, enhanced safety measures will be implemented, including stricter access controls, improved signage, and increased vigilance at entry points to prevent unauthorized vehicular movement.

NHAI expresses heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and urges citizens to support and comply with all safety notifications to prevent any such tragedies in the future.
